Rebuilding house and life after a fire
This blog is a journal about a challenging time in my life due to a house fire, my son's depression, and beginning my empty nest stage of life. The fire at my house occured exactly 6 weeks before the first entry, and reliving it through writing is both difficult and helpful. The journal has caught up to real time now, but I do look back now and then to reflect and add perspective.Archives

Sweating the small stuff (10)
I am definitely sweating the small stuff. Maybe because there’s so much small stuff every single day in my post-fire life that added all together, it becomes sweat-worthy. I spend hours and hours – no exaggeration – on the phone … Continue reading

All Gone (8)
It’s been five days since the fire. Today I meet with the insurance appraiser and the general contractor to go through my house. I arrange to work from home, naively thinking that the meeting will be just an hour and … Continue reading

Where there’s fire, there’s smoke (3)
After watching our son be airlifted to the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for more tests , we slowly make our way through a deserted central Austin out to the northern suburbs to see what has become of my house. … Continue reading
