Rebuilding house and life after a fire
This blog is a journal about a challenging time in my life due to a house fire, my son's depression, and beginning my empty nest stage of life. The fire at my house occured exactly 6 weeks before the first entry, and reliving it through writing is both difficult and helpful. The journal has caught up to real time now, but I do look back now and then to reflect and add perspective.Archives

Half empty or half full? (96)
I’m talking about my garage, of course, not a glass of water. I’m usually a ‘half full’ kind of person, but in my current situation, ‘half empty’ would be the more optimistic view. No matter how many boxes I unpack, … Continue reading

A new year, a new beginning (64)
Jews welcomed a new year at sundown on Wednesday. Jewish holidays go from sundown to sundown (and there was night and there was morning) and are dated according to a lunar calendar, which is why the Jewish holidays land on … Continue reading

The fire is out, now what? (62)
The hot rainless summer has had devastating effects here in Texas, most notably the fires that recently raged in central Texas. More than 1500 homes were destroyed, many pets lost or displaced, and worst of all, some people have lost … Continue reading

Creeping forward (58)
Slowly, ever so slowly, I sense progress, a hint of moving forward in rebuilding house and life. Picking up my mail this week, I decide to peek inside the house to see if anything has changed recently. There had been … Continue reading
